Martinsville, Indiana is the county seat of Morgan County in south central Indiana. This county, comprised of some 53 small towns, is one of the fastest growing in the state. The city, an outlying city of Indianapolis, has a dedicated team in the Martinsville Parks and Recreation Department, who aim to keep up with the growth all around them.

Martinsville, Indiana courthouseMartinsville’s parks and recreation program is a strong one, and the city is fortunate to have plentiful public green spaces and athletic fields to enjoy long into the future, primarily Jimmy Nash City Park (once simply called City Park), 90 acres set aside for the community and cared for by the city. Bradford Woods, an affiliate of Indiana University out of Martinsville and Morgan County, is a whopping 2,400 acres of parkland used for educational and recreational programs.

Today, there are several fisheries in Martinsville, Indiana pulling in millions of dollars every year from their worldwide sales. For about 50 years in the early 1900’s, Martinsville was the place to go for the supposed health benefits of its mineral water spas, which boosted the city along in its maturation progress.

Martinsville business, likewise, is healthy and booming. The city is chock full of small stores and shops and shored up with a solid foundation of industries, of which the largest is still the hatcheries.

In the summer, Martinsville, Indiana holds the Morgan County Fair, with its rodeo and 4-H competition, exhibits and Indianapolis bands. During the autumn, people come from miles around to attend the Fall Foliage Festival, replete with vendors, exhibits, live entertainment and special events. Both festivals last for days and are the highlight of the year for the small city.
