Martinsville, Indiana, a suburb just over a half-hour’s drive to the southwest of Indianapolis, is a nice-sized, active city of about 11,000 stalwart souls. Nevertheless, official Martinsville attractions are rather few and far between.
The Morgan Monroe State Forest, a principle attraction in Martinsville, lies on the southern edge of town and occupies some 24,000 acres. This is a marvelous forest with hunting, fishing and camping for visitors, who can even pan for gold there.
A principle attraction not only for Martinsville children of all ages but all Southside Indy Hoosiers is Paintball Indiana, the largest outdoor paintball field in greater Indianapolis. A day playing paintball makes a memorable outing for birthday parties, corporate parties and other such social events.
The Martinsville Country Club is a plum attraction for the town, or the beautiful acres of the Jimmy Nash Park, star of the Martinsville Parks and Recreation program. Even the Midwest Martinsville festivals pack a punch and exert an allure, and Martinsville antiquing holds sway for serious lovers of the art.
But to experience other, more traditional attractions, such as the many famous tourist attractions in Indianapolis, a Hoosier in Martinsville need only drive a few miles in any direction to any of the nearby cities in Indiana.
