Bonneyville Mill County Park: In Bristol, Indiana, some four hours north of Martinsville, resides a pleasant destination point for stretching your legs. This park encompasses over 200 acres of breathtaking beauty, and one of the oldest working gristmills in Indiana. Plan it right and you’ll get to see one of the town’s annual Civil War reenactments. Just a few miles southwest of Bristol is the interesting mid-sized city of Elkhart, Indiana. One could pass some more than pleasant hours in Elkhart, especially in its vastly beautiful park lands. Driving around this part of this country, you will come upon rich farmlands and orchards worthy of a photo op. After Elkhart, you will find yourself just a few miles away from the southern tip of Lake Michigan, and you will want to make the short drive to see it too.

Holiday World and Splashin’ Safari in Santa Claus, Indiana: About 150 miles south of Martinsville is the little town with the unlikely name of Santa Claus. If you haven’t gone to see Santa Claus yet, obviously, you should, if only to say you’ve been. It’s a nice drive any time of the year, and once you get there you can enjoy the Holiday World and Splashin’ Safari, a popular amusement park with vintage, working roller coasters and record-breaking waterslides. This is a downright dream of a water park, and all its vast acreage filled to the brim with  fun. You might want also stop by the Lincoln Living Historical Farm in Lincoln City, Indiana, a few miles west of Santa Claus. On the way home, why not stop in Bloomington? This historic city, sometimes called “B-Town,” is the seventh largest in Indiana. You’re sure to find a good restaurant there, and many other interesting treasures to top off your Santa Claus trip.

Hoosier National Forest: Located less than an hour’s drive south of Martinsville, this enormous park space and wooded land has everything you ever wanted in a human-friendly forest. Take your cameras, fishing or hunting gear and comfy clothes, because you won’t want to leave till dark. Hoosier National Forest offers up a stately 200,000 acres to lovers of nature, including areas such as the popular Pioneer Mother’s Memorial Forest in the Paoli sector of the park. This is a perfect place to go to enjoy the best of Indiana’s magnificent Fall foliage. You’ll want to visit the Hickory Ridge Lookout Tower, the Charles Deam Wilderness and the stunning Hemlock Cliffs sandstone formations, just to name a few places inside the forest to put on your list.
